The dispossessed Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle A film investigating the ongoing social housing situation through the UK, taking a look at the consequences of the increased demolitions that are occuring. It is directed by Paul Sng and the Q & A session was chaired by Shami Chakrabarti at Merton Library last Friday. Shami discussed 'ghost towers' in her borough of Lambeth where 'zombeing' occurs; individuals are paid to move shoes around on door mats to make it look as if someone is living inside. Many of these investment homes are not even fitted with bathrooms as no-one will live there. Members of the audience included those living in housing on Merton's current regeneration programme such as the Ravensbury and Eastfield estates. One wheelchair user informed the audience that the new developers were under no obligation to provide housing suitable for his needs.
